Waveform, spectral, overlay and split

The View menu offers four ways to look at a song. Pick whichever helps you find the moment you are after. Your choice is remembered.

Wave view

The classic waveform. Loud parts are tall, quiet parts are flat. Best for spotting where a song starts and stops.

Spectral view

Shows the frequencies in the song as a coloured picture — bass at the bottom, treble at the top, brighter where there is more of it.

This is often far easier for finding where a vocal comes in, because a voice shows up as a distinct band that a waveform simply does not reveal.

Overlay view

Both at once, with a slider to fade between them.

Split view

Waveform on top, frequencies underneath.

Colours

The Spectrogram Colours menu offers eleven colour schemes. This is purely personal taste — try a few and use whichever you find easiest to read.
