Troubleshooting, and how to get help

A song will not load

Check the file plays in another program first. VSE2 handles WAV, MP3, WMA, M4A, AAC, FLAC and MP2, including RCS Master Control WAV files.

I cannot hear anything

Check the Audio Device menu is pointing at the right output.

If you have picked an ASIO device, see the note on Listening back — some virtual ASIO drivers report that they are playing while sending the sound somewhere else entirely.

My changes did not save

Look for the pink labels — they mean unsaved changes. Click Save.

If VSE2 is in demo mode (not registered), you can only save five files per session.

My serial will not register

You have to be online for this one step — VSE2 checks the serial with our licence server. If the machine is behind a firewall that blocks outgoing web traffic, that check cannot get through.

Then check the serial itself. It is 47 characters including the dashes, so it is worth pasting rather than typing. If you get ERROR #LIC0, some characters are missing.

If you are told the licence has reached its activation limit, you have registered on more machines than the licence covers. Open a ticket and we will free one up.

Anything else — open a support ticket and include the serial. We can see what happened at our end.

The program crashed

Open a support ticket, and please attach the log files. You will find them here:

Paste that into the address bar of a File Explorer window to open the folder.

A final word on backups

VSE2 writes cue points into your song files, and it does so carefully: your original is never overwritten in place, so an interrupted save cannot damage it.

Even so, keep backups of your music. That is good practice with any program that edits your files, and it costs you nothing but a bit of disk space.
