Registering VSE2

Turning the demo into the full version

Without a licence, VSE2 runs as a demo. You can do everything, but you can only save five files per session. Registering removes that limit.

How to register

  1. Open the About menu and choose Register.
  2. Fill in your Name, your Business (station name), and your Serial number.
  3. Click Register.

The window title changes to Registered to: your name as soon as it works, so you can see straight away that it has taken. Close the registration window and carry on — there is no need to restart.

You must be online to register. VSE2 checks your serial number against our licence server, so it cannot activate without an internet connection. You only need to be online for this one step.

Where the licence lives, and who it covers

Once registered, the licence is stored for the whole computer, not just for the person who entered it. If several people log in to the same studio PC — a Program Director, a Music Director, an automation account — it only needs registering once, and everyone gets the full version.

One licence covers up to three Windows installations. In a typical radio station that is usually plenty — you might spread one licence across your production computer, your scheduler, and the PD's PC.

A "Windows installation" means one running copy of Windows, whether that is a physical PC or a virtual machine. So a single computer running, say, 30 Windows virtual machines with VSE2 on each would need ten licences (30 installations, three per licence).

The licence is perpetual. It cannot be transferred to another party without written permission from Blue Tomato Media. For larger deployments, contact us about bulk licensing.

The licence itself is a small file called licence.lic, kept here:

%PROGRAMDATA%\BlueTomatoMedia\VSE2\licence.lic

You should not need to touch it. It is worth knowing where it is if you are rebuilding a machine, or if support ever asks.

Already own version 1?

Your existing Visual Segue Editor v1.x serial number works in v2. There is no charge to upgrade — just enter your old serial.

Where do I get a serial?

From bluetomatomedia.com. If you have bought one and it will not activate, open a support ticket and we will sort it out.
